In 1643 (Kanei 20), the fourth lord of the Kaga clan, Mitsutaka Maeda, built in Kanazawa-Johokunomaru to worship his great-grandfather, Ieyasu Tokugawa (Toshodaigongen). The sculptures and decorative metal fittings are painted in red, and the main shrine, the hall of worship, the palace, the middle gate, and the transparent wall are designated as important national cultural properties.

In 1823 (Bunsei 6), the 11th feudal lord of the Kaga clan, Harunaga Maeda, founded as the guardian of the 12th feudal lord Narinaga Maeda’s Takezawa Palace. In 1824 (Bunsei 7), the palace was destroyed, but Takezawa Tenjin remained and was renamed Kanazawa Shrine in 1874 (Meiji 7). It is also famous as a god of learning.

In the old days, it was a native god of shichikamura, Ishiura-go and located in Ishiuramachi (Korinbo). Later in the years, it was moved to Honda’s lower residence due to the war fire and built a shrine. It is said that the name of the Sannoutokonushigongen was abolished by ban on mixing Buddhism and Shinto in Meiji era and called Ishiura Shrine.
